WHEN THE CENSORS SAY "JUMP," THE MUSIC INDUSTRY SAYS, "HOW HIGH?"
MUSICIANS AND FANS WON'T BE FOOLED AGAIN
By: John Woods
Using a well-worn style and flare that was perfected in years past by Tipper Gore's PMRC, Don Wildmon's AFA, and a host of others, Pennsylvania State Representative Terence "TJ" Rooney has joined the ranks of the "CENSORSHIP THROUGH INTIMIDATION" crowd. TJ has been pounding his chest while barking out a stream of threats and ultimatums to various "Representatives" of the music industry. "Set up this Task Force, as I say, or I'll huff, I'll puff, I'll pass my bill." (HB-377) And guess what folks! The Industry is ONCE AGAIN gonna fall for it, and AGAIN cave-in to the demands and threats of yet another tin-horn, Tipper Gore wanna be! When is the music industry gonna wake up? When are NARM, the labels, and the RIAA gonna realize that ANY compromise made with a jackal like Rooney only leads to more restrictive demands the next time around. You'd think they would have learned this lesson from past deals made with Tipper. When will they cast off this "LET'S MAKE A DEAL" mindset they seem to be possessed with? When are they going to at last stand-up and tell all of these "cultural vigilantes" to "FUCK OFF"? From what we can tell, most bands, and most fans have absolutely no hang-ups, or special interest when it comes to this. The threats and ultimatums espoused in the last five paragraphs of the article below (Fate of Obscenity Bill Hangs in the Balance) are absolutely nothing new. We've heard them all before, flowing from the lips of Tipper Gore, TJ.
We strongly urge the industry to firmly and frankly inform Terence where he can stick his Task Force. If, as he claims, he's got the votes to pass HB-377, in both the PA House and Senate, what's he waiting for? Pass your damn bill! But are you sure it will stand a Constitutional test? Are you sure the citizens of the Commonwealth (who you, of course care so much about) are willing to dole out the huge litigation fees you're gonna cost them to defend it. Let's see who's blowing smoke up who's ass! To all the representatives of the music industry: PULL ALL THE "TIPPER STICKERS" NOW!!! (see page 5 for more).
