I recently read about your newspaper in Dave Marsh's book 50 WAYS TO FIGHT CENSORSHIP, and I would like to begin subscribing to it.
I would like to tell you about something that happened last year. I'm not certain that this falls under the category of censorship, but I think it is somewhat related, anyway, you be the judge. On January 29, 1991, I got home from work at 6:15 a.m. When I went into the house, I found my 63-year old mother stabbed to death. The police caught the man responsible in about a week.
On the morning of the 29th, after the police arrived and sealed the area off I had to sign a release to give them permission to search the house. A little while later they were asking me questions like whom did I think would want to harm my mother, if she has any enemies, what her normal routine was and so forth. During the questioning one of the officers started asking me about my record collection. You see I have a number of heavy metal albums in my collection such as W.A.S.P., JUDAS PRIEST, OZZY OSBOURNE, MANOWAR, DOKKEN and AC/DC. But I also have CDs of MOZART, BEETHOVEN, etc. I also have quite a few movie soundtracks. But the officer only zeroed in on the heavy metal discs. He could see how upset I was about what had happened but he went ahead and stated that he had noticed my record collection in my room and that he saw that I have heavy metal albums in it. He said that he did not want to make me mad, but that he was curious and then he asked me if I knew that heavy metal dealt and/or involved Satanism, devil worship and the occult. As upset as I was at what I found that morning I still had the presence of mind to tell him that not only was he wrong, but that I have neither seen nor heard any evidence of that in all the years that I've been listening to metal. After I said that he let the subject drop.
I have included a page from the biggest local newspaper to give you a verification of the event. Thank you for your attention. I hope to hear from you soon.
